Open city dataset
Every score on this site comes from one file: 1103 cities, 29 columns, one row per city. It is free to download and reuse under CC BY 4.0 — the same numbers that drive every ranking and comparison page here.

Sources
- Coordinates & population: GeoNames cities15000/cities5000 (real lat/lon/population, CC BY)
- Climate: WorldClim v2.1 10-arc-min monthly mean temperatures (real, offline grid)
- Cost: World Bank: PPP factor (private consumption, PA.NUS.PRVT.PP) / official exchange rate (PA.NUS.FCRF), US=100 (real, open CC BY), adjusted by a modeled city-size premium (0.85x small town -> 1.28x major metro, anchored at 100k pop on real GeoNames population) reflecting documented metro rent/price premiums; official city-level data (US: BEA RPP/HUD; EU: Eurostat) = next layer
- Hazards: 8 hazards (1-5). REAL: earthquake = USGS M4.5+ count within 300km since 1980; extreme heat & extreme cold = WorldClim warmest/coldest-month mean. MODELLED from real geophysical data (verify before publish): drought & wildfire = Koppen-Geiger climate zone + summer heat; flood = Koppen rainfall regime + low-lying elevation; storm = tropical-cyclone basin (lat/lon) + coastal exposure; tsunami = subduction-zone coast (lat/lon) + elevation + local seismicity.
- Crime: World Bank intentional homicide rate per 100k, VC.IHR.PSRC.P5 (real, open CC BY)

Licensed CC BY 4.0: reuse it, including commercially, with attribution to CityLivably and a link to this page. If you quote a single figure, quote its source too — the underlying providers, not this index, are the origin of every input.
